In her award-winning film REQUIEM FÜR EINE ROMANTISCHE FRAU, Dagmar Knöpfel tells the story of the amour fou between the Romantic poet Clemens Brentano - played by Sylvester Groth - and the young banker's daughter Auguste Bußmann, for whose portrayal Janina Sachau received the Max Ophüls Award for best young actor. The relationship and later marriage were plagued by scandal, and the desire and arguments between the two were fierce and intense. In the film, it is particularly Auguste who wants to live the romantic ideal of love sung poetically by Brentano in reality, thus upsetting the poet and her lover, as well as society. The result is the portrait of a strong and unconventional woman, painted by the director in historically well-founded and psychologically credible opulent images. (Anke Hahn)
